Analysis and Design of Novel Axial Field Flux-Modulation Permanent Magnet Machines for Direct Drive Application

Axial field flux-modulation permanent magnet (AF-FMPM) machines have been developed for direct drive applications such as wind power generation, HEVs, and railway traction. However, the existing studies on AF-FMPM are limited to PM rotor structure, less research has carried out with stator structure. This paper two axial machines, i.e., NS or NN type, which all consist of same structures but dual identical outer surface-mounted stators face each other in different position. A comprehensive theoretical analysis global optimization machine based ANSYS Maxwell 3-D FEA is presented. The performance comparisons between (NS) (NN) presented, including influence critical structural dimensions performance, phase flux linkage, back EMF, cogging torque, average torque performance. results show that EMF more sinusoidal higher than (NN). Furthermore, type shows non-saliency characteristics, while salient machine.
